HISTORY
The Stewart clan records their ancestor as Banquo, Thane of Lochaber ( who is also mentioned in Shakespeare’s MacBeth). Descended from an ancient family who cam to Scotland as David I became King. Lands were given to the family in Renfrewshire and East Lothian and the family were given the office of High Stewart. The founder of the royal family of Stewarts was Walter, the son of Alan or Fitz-Alan from Shropshire, England.
The Stewart Black tartan is a strong black with red, blue, yellow, white and green.
