HISTORY

Although the Boyd tartan is not one of the best known of the Scottish tartans, it is widely acclaimed for it’s charm and rich bold colours.

The history of the name is believed to have originally comes from Boid, the genitive of Bod and Gaelic for Bute. The Boyd tartan is believed to have dated back to at least 1205 with an early patriot of the clan was Duncan Boyd who was hanged in 1306 for aiding famous Robert the Bruce.

The tartan is bold with it’s rich red and green background and lifted with its yellow and white stripe.
